چکیده

The crossing probability in the time direction, πt, is defined for an offequilibrium reaction-diffusion system as the probability that the system of size L is still active at time t, in the finite-size scaling limit. Exact results are obtained for the diffusion-limited coalescence problem in 1 + 1 dimensions with periodic and free boundary conditions using empty interval methods. πt is a scale-invariant universal function of an effective aspect ratio, L/Dt, which is the natural scaling variable for this strongly anisotropic system.

Diffusion, Convection and Erosion on R o S and their Application to the Enhancement of Crossing Fibers

In this article we study both left-invariant (convection-)diffusions and left-invariant Hamilton-Jacobi equations (erosions) on the space R o S of 3D-positions and orientations naturally embedded in the group SE(3) of 3Drigid body movements. The general motivation for these (convection-)diffusions and erosions is to obtain crossingpreserving fiber enhancement on probability densities defined on...

Controlled nanoparticle formation by diffusion limited coalescence.

Polymeric nanoparticles (NPs) have great application potential in science and technology. Their functionality strongly depends on their size. We present a theory for the size of NPs formed by precipitation of polymers into a bad solvent in the presence of a stabilizing surfactant. The analytical theory is based upon diffusion-limited coalescence kinetics of the polymers. Two relevant time scale...

Reaction diffusion models in one dimension with disorder.

We study a large class of one-dimensional reaction diffusion models with quenched disorder using a real space renormalization group method (RSRG) which yields exact results at large time. Particles (e.g., of several species) undergo diffusion with random local bias (Sinai model) and may react upon meeting. We obtain a detailed description of the asymptotic states (i.e., attractive fixed points ...

Symmetric and asymmetric coalescence of drops on a substrate.

The coalescence of viscous drops on a substrate is studied experimentally and theoretically. We consider cases where the drops can have different contact angles, leading to a very asymmetric coalescence process. Side view experiments reveal that the "bridge" connecting the drops evolves with self-similar dynamics, providing a new perspective on the coalescence of sessile drops. We show that the...

Translation Invariant Approach for Measuring Similarity of Signals

In many signal processing applications, an appropriate measure to compare two signals plays a fundamental role in both implementing the algorithm and evaluating its performance. Several techniques have been introduced in literature as similarity measures. However, the existing measures are often either impractical for some applications or they have unsatisfactory results in some other applicati...
